Docs Setting up screens

Pairing a screen

Connect a new screen to your organisation by scanning its QR code.

Pairing connects a screen to a client and a screen group. You need the editor role or higher in that client.

Scan the QR code

An unpaired screen shows a QR code and an eight-character code such as K7QM-X3TD.

  1. Scan the QR code with your phone's camera. It opens https://signage.8w.fi/pair/<code>; sign in if asked.
  2. Choose the organisation (client) the screen belongs to.
  3. Give the screen a name — something that tells you where it is, like Lobby left.
  4. Choose a screen group.
  5. Tap Connect.

The screen picks up its credentials within a couple of seconds and starts playing the group's published content. If nothing has been published yet it shows a waiting screen — publish and it starts.

Entering the code by hand

On a laptop, or if the camera won't focus: in the editor go to Screens → Connect a screen and type the code. Dashes and spaces don't matter.

Device quota

Each client can pair as many screens as its device quota allows. The pairing page shows how many are in use. When it's full, Connect is disabled — unpair a screen you no longer use, or ask your company administrator (or upgrade your plan) for more.

Codes and security

  • A code is valid for 15 minutes. After that the screen shows a fresh one automatically.
  • A code can be used once. The screen receives its own access token exactly once; the code is useless afterwards.
  • The token identifies only that screen and only lets it fetch its own content and report status. Unpairing revokes it immediately.

Pairing again

To move a screen to a different organisation, unpair it first. It returns to the QR code and can be paired again.
