Publishing

How drafts become what screens play, and how fast changes arrive.

Everything you change in the editor is a draft. Screens keep playing the last published version until you publish again, so you can work on a new playlist without half-finished slides appearing on screen.

Publish changes

Tap Publish changes on the Screens page. For every screen group in the client, Info Display:

  1. Takes a snapshot of the group's default playlist, schedule rules, slides and media.
  2. Saves it as an immutable manifest identified by a hash of its content.
  3. Notifies the group's screens that a new version exists.

If nothing changed since the last publish, you'll see Already up to date and nothing is sent.

How screens pick it up

  • Screens check in every 15 seconds; when the reply mentions a new version they fetch the manifest straight away. They also poll for it every 30 seconds.
  • A screen downloads any media it doesn't already have and verifies each file's checksum.
  • Only when everything is in place does it switch to the new content — there's never a half-loaded state on screen.

In practice, changes appear within about 15–30 seconds plus download time for new videos.

Who can publish

Editors, client admins and company admins can publish. Viewers can look but not change anything. See people and roles.

Checking what's on screen

The Screens page shows each screen's status, the version it plays and whether it's up to date. Use Screenshot on a screen to see exactly what's showing right now — see managing screens.
