Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions. For step-by-step guides, see the documentation.

General

What is Info Display?

A hosted digital-signage service. You put a small player behind any TV or monitor, connect it to your account by scanning a QR code, and manage what it shows from a web app on your phone or computer.

Who is it for?

Anyone with screens to keep up to date without a dedicated AV team: cafés and restaurants, shops, offices, schools, gyms, clinics, factories — and the agencies and resellers who run screens for them.

Do I need to install any software?

Only on the screens. The editor runs in your browser and can be installed on your phone like an app. Screens run Info Display OS or our agent package — see installing a screen.

Which languages does the editor support?

English and Finnish. Your content can be in any language — text slides support any script your fonts do.

Screens and hardware

What hardware do I need?

Any display with HDMI, plus a mini PC (x86-64) or a Raspberry Pi 4/5. Mini PCs are best for video-heavy content; a Raspberry Pi is fine for images, text and clocks. See hardware.

Can I use a smart TV without a separate player?

Not today. A dedicated player gives you offline playback, remote control and screenshots, which built-in TV browsers can't do reliably. We can also ship ready-to-run players.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Nothing visible. Screens download all media ahead of time, verify it and play from local storage. Schedules are evaluated on the screen, so they keep switching on time. When the connection returns, the screen catches up with anything you've published.

How do I connect a new screen?

Turn it on; it shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone, choose a name and a screen group, tap Connect. Codes expire after 15 minutes and can only be used once. More about pairing.

Can screens use Wi-Fi?

Yes. Set it up in the installer, with a USB stick, or from the on-screen recovery page — if a screen can't get online it opens its own hotspot so you can configure it from your phone. Networking guide.

Do screens need open ports or a VPN?

No. Screens only make outgoing HTTPS connections. They work behind ordinary firewalls and NAT without any configuration.

Can I mount screens in portrait?

Yes. Set the screen group's orientation to portrait (or flipped, for screens mounted upside down) and the player rotates its output.

Content

What can I show?

Images, videos, YouTube videos, live web pages, text, your own HTML and clocks. All slide types.

Which file formats are supported?

Images: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF up to 50 MB. Videos: MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV up to 2 GB. Everything is converted automatically for smooth playback.

Can different screens show different things?

Yes. Screens are organised in screen groups; each group has its own playlist and schedule. A screen can be moved to another group at any time.

Can I schedule content?

Yes — by weekday, time of day (including overnight windows) and date range, with priorities when rules overlap. Schedule rules.

How quickly do changes reach the screens?

Usually within 15–30 seconds of publishing, plus the time to download new videos. Screens switch only once everything has arrived, so nobody sees a half-loaded slide.

Pricing and billing

How does pricing work?

You pay per paired screen per month. Team members, slides and playlists are not counted separately; storage is included per plan. See pricing.

Is there a free trial?

Yes: 14 days with up to two screens and every Business feature. No credit card required.

What counts as a screen?

One paired player. Unpairing a screen frees its slot straight away, so you can move a licence from one display to another whenever you like.

Can I change plans later?

Any time. Upgrades apply immediately; downgrades from the next billing period.

Do you offer discounts for schools and non-profits?

Yes. Get in touch and tell us about your organisation.

Security and privacy

Where is my data stored?

Accounts and content are stored on our servers, media with our object-storage provider. The privacy policy lists where and with whom.

How are accounts protected?

Passwords are hashed with Argon2id, sessions use HttpOnly cookies, sign-ins are rate limited, and every request is checked against your role. Security overview.

Can other organisations see my content?

No. Each organisation's content, screens and people are fully separated, and the service doesn't even reveal whether another organisation exists.

Can someone hijack a screen?

A screen only plays content from the organisation it's paired to, using its own access token. Pairing codes are single-use and expire after 15 minutes, and unpairing revokes the token immediately.
